UK hooks is the best i know for large bulk orders of boat hooks, lures beads etc.

The you got all the standard one's Veals, Geryy's etc

Also most the locals am sure would give you a good price on bulk orders..i know Frasers does.

I'm doing a bit of a market research exercise looking into the viability of building rigs and flogging them

Obviously buying items in bulk IE Swivels, hooks, mono etc would bring the costs right down so I was looking to find some costs and also to see what you could get and who from

There's a lot of ebay sellers who are clearly buying stuff in bulk - I want to know where from

wouldn't bother personally building them yourself, by the time you've built em, flogged em, packed and posted em you'll work out as having paid yourself a couple of quid an hour tops

I've got contacts at a few factories in china and ahve imported a few bits over the years, got one that just sells hooks at stupid prices, but min order is 10,000 hooks, but its almost worth it as they are so cheap, last time I looked, 10,000 1/0 aberdeens were something like $20

I was buying ready made rigs for pennies, daylights/hokkais etc. was getting 7/0 3 hook hokkai rigs for 7p and 5 hook 1/0 daylights for 5p

give you an idea of prices for bulk.

that's the kind of info I was after cheers ...how did you get to meet these spurious china types

as to the hourly "profit" then I agree it'd be low but only relatively speaking as I wouldn't be relying on it as a sole source of income

is that the same with hooks as well?... I suppose if items were to be sold en masse then a £700ish outlay isn't that much really

you can sometimes convince em to sell you a sample order - 50bucks worth or so, but you have to work on them and convince them your serious, then do a load of haggling

I used to buy my stuff from a Mr Poo!

least his 'Ingrish' was far better than my chinese and a huge credit to him for that, In the finish I got a sample order of various sets of lures - 1000 sets in total, with shipping, VAT and the like worked out costing me just under £100

from paying the bucks to opening the box took under 3 weeks

hooks only can be a bit different, minimum order was 10,000 pieces (IIRC)

so could be just a few bucks

as soon as you add the Chinese part of the equation into Google it opens up a whole avenue of exploration

Like Mark says you can buy ready made rigs for pennies - but you're looking at minimum buys/spends of £400/500 on most occasions (if not higher)

The hooks and line and swivels can be bought en masse but again you're talking 1000s of each product

I did the math yesterday on the cost of making one type of rig based on buying the components at UK retail cost and it worked out at less than a quid - add p&p and packaging and it comes out at a quid a rig...then there's whatever profit you deem suitable and competitive

dont forget to add in the cost of time taken to make the rigs. bet it works out more than a quid a rig after that.
Still if a group of lads got together and bought in bulk it would work out a lot cheaper.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible,
but P*****g everyone off is a piece of cake.
