  • Bamburgh Castle Abseil

    Hi All

On Sunday the 12th April I am doing an abseil of nearly 100 feet down Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland in aid of Grace House North East Childrens Hospice Appeal

The Appeal is raising funds to build, equip and run an eight bed children’s hospice for children across the North East. Over 1,000 families in the North East of England require hospice care and Grace House will provide a home from home, loving environment where children and their families may turn to for support

I have set up an online sponsor/donation form at Justgiving - Ian Woods's Fundraising Page to help raise some much needed cash for this very, very worthwhile charity

I only need to raise a minimum £80 to do this abseil so any help, large or small, would be very gratefully received.

Thanks for any help you can give

    Best Wishes
    Ian

Good luck mate, make sure your heeds above your feet, you're attached to the rope and the rope is attached to something else (preferably not the next abseiler)

Money's in the Internet and thanks for the waders.

Will back you up on the cause Grommit. We at Longhoughton Ranger Youth Football Club did a fundraising event for them last year and raised a couple of grand for them. If you know of any child with a terminal illness, then this place will cover the whole of the North East to deliver respite care for the kids and their families. A very worthy cause, and I defy any man/woman to watch the cd-rom they have on the charity and the little girl it's named after not to cry buckets!

        Good luck mate

Well today was 'the' day and I couldnt hope for a nicer day to put my trust in a thin piece of rope!!

The venue was the 'stunning' Bamburgh Castle. If any of you are ever in Northumberland, it is well worth a visit. A superbly preserved castle with a fantastic museum and stunning views of the Northumberland coast and countryside

Had to be there for 10.00 to sign and get 'tooled up' ready for my task ahead, and I was then ready for the off.

I did have some moral 'support' in the shape of my Business and Marketing manager Vicky. I use the word 'support' in the loosest possible way!! If I was putting my trust in a piece of rope, I was damned sure I was taking one of my staff with me!!

Anyway, after what felt like a 20 mile hike to the top, the time came for me to go 'over the top'

I know, that picture didnt catch my best side and the harness made my bum look big. Either that or I blame my daughters photography. I'm a tuned athlete really

Once over the top it was ............ well just like falling off a castle!!

After a bit of heckling from my wife on the ground, and shouts from her of 'cut the rope', my feet finally hit terra firma

All in all it was a fantastic day out and we were blessed with superb weather for it. Most of all, the charity has benefited massively from the day. Once I have a final figure in I wil let you all know what we raised.

If any of you still wish to donate, you can do so online at Justgiving - Ian Woods's Fundraising Page

Thanks to everyone who has donated, the support is very much appreciated

Thanks for donation Steve and thanks to everybody else who sponsored me. I think between Vicky and myself we have raised between £400 and £500 for the charity
