Seriously, don't buy one.... I posted this on their own forums tonite:
Sorry if this offends any fan-peeps. But this been our worst ever buy and worst ever support. Here's the whole sorry story, console.other history follows......
We bought our 3 kids both a 360 and a Nintendo Wii for Xmas 2007 between all of them . They had DS handhelds and wanted some carts for them each - we'd already planned the 360 and suggested with the nintendo price dop that they get the Wii instead of a couple of DS carts each.
360, great until about 5mths in and it fails. no red ring just not reading or loading disks and random freezing. So it goes from the UK to Germany (why)? for repair, with calls and shipping this is near 3wks turnaround, retailer (anagram of SORAG) want's nothing to do with it other than give me a phone number despite all my challenges - kids losing out and so I go with it, comes back working saying "motherboard and drive failure" thrown in is a cheesey 1mth gold (so wow we had 12mths members so maybe gained a week but lost 3 weeks or more?).
3-ish more months and the exact same fault happens, gone again after hours on the phone, it was off again for another, yes mobo and drive. The fixed machine performed perfectly until the one day you will get no support and want nothing to go wrong..... Yes, with a pile of new games on 25th December 2008 at 8am, our 360 failed with the same errors as the previous fails. By the time we get a replacement machine - ie supposedly not a fix, but a re-manufactured unit, the holidays are well over. not even a gold subscription to say sorry. just a recon console with only 3 months warranty (is that a joke warranty to stop anymore claims?).. all i was thinking was, well it's 3 fails in a year, are they hedging their bets on getting shot of most if they're over 12wks after a replacement machine???!!!
So now, here we are.... guess what? yes the replacement machine lasted less than 8 weeks. 5 calls to microsoft have had one call back in 3 days a the time I told them not to call me.
Called them tonite, took me 20mins to get an answer, gave basic details and demanded a supervisor - guy had my info and the problem details based on my previous calls, tries to transfer me and this basically takes the next hour. Get through and the *supervisor* somehow has my name and nothing else... finally a "supervisor" guy and hey he wouldn't accept my info despite having my email addy, home addy, phone number, console ID, etc, finally asks for console serial of the sticker on the replacement machine that they sent me - despite giving the on-screen console id and s/no when it was switched on and after all of the above and cuts in after 4 digits and tells me the rest!!! He then fobs me off with "3-6 days to collect" and a "goodbye", tries to end the call.
Hung up after holding the line open for as long as I could be chewed, it's and 0800 number so costing them not me - sorry if i've held anyone up, honest.
Never buying microsoft again tho.

Ohh and I'm not racist or intollerant of speach/hearing issues, I admit that my hearing is dire but also want to point out that I'm a Geordie but have killed my accent since my youth so you can't blame that - when I fekking spell out my surname as many ways as I can, the S's are S's - you might mic up "f" and "s", but "Sierra" and "Foxtrot" do NOT sound the same, don't get me started on my postcode ending in 'BQ' which throws even the council staff who have my name and info in front of them.....
