  • Referendum - too close to call?

So will I need my passport to come fishing in the North East after Thursday?

As the Proclaimers may say - Whitley Bay no more, Tyne no more, Hartlepool no more, Whitby no more. Equally for you guys -Skye no more, Galloway no more, Eyemouth no more, Arbroath no more!

It's going to be a torrid few days North of the border!

Personally I think the status quo will prevail, rightly or wrongly.

I reckon the yes vote may just get the nod and then the jock salmond will go down in history as the guy who gained scottish independence which, after all, is what he is really interested in.

Anyways won't stop me sneaking across the border for a chuck

Kayos (Mark) and I were brought up in the Thatcher years and that is what shaped his nationalisim/socialism tendencies I think.

I have never been sure about an independent Scotland, but Mark always has been, ever since I have known him.

Now it is within touching distance, he is strangely reticent about it, he seems a wee bit scared of a yes vote!?

Maybe it is because it is such a massive decision, with no turning back?

Who knows how it will pan out?

          Watch this space!!

PS We will still come to the NE for the fishing though!!

interesting point you make about the point of no return, I think the question was asked about future referendums to smug looking salmond today if there was a slender no vote win, anyway, if Scotland do go it alone and leave the UK does/should the same not apply to a future referendum to re join?
Also, I say why can't us English, taffs and micks have a vote to boot the jocks oot

Gordon this is our one and only chance in a generation, or a lifetime as Alex Salmond has made crystal clear. No going back if we vote yes and no new vote for 20 or 30 years if we say no!

If you lot want to vote us out of the union, I woulds be right up for that. Save me making a decision!

Be aware though, if Scotland leaves the union and our 72 MP's are lost to the UK, you lot will have a Tory Government for the rest of your lives!!

              Enjoy!!!

This is the 21st century and it's not a question of empires like that nutter salmond seems to think, its about economics and as far as political leadership goes their all the same, confused people talking ****e and making a living out of it and you guys will find no difference when yer on yer ownsome but good luck anyways codqueen and tight lines

I just hope that everybody in Scotland is thinking seiously about this vote and not using it as a protest vote against the present government. The answer from Salmond about the bigger issues is a resounding "don't know" which would worry me. It's not as if everthing has to be put in place in one day after the vote if it is a yes and matters like the currency, EU membership and defence can be sorted in time, but these are things that I would rather have answered before a vote. Good luck Scotland whichever way it goes, personally I've always felt that I have much more in common with the Scottish than with the Southern English.

I have absolutely no doubt that Scotland would be better off with a No vote.

Personally I do not really care much, although I would rather we stay united so that Salmond does not get his name in the history books - what a donkey that bloke is.

The Scottish people really do get the best of both worlds with a No vote considering whats on offer from Downing Street should they choose to say No. The time will come when we do break away but now is not the time and I think the majority of Scots know that, as much as they would like to vote yes and so I feel common sense will prevail in this referendum.

I expect us to keep the pound. The rest of the UK, even though the politicians say they won't, absolutely will enter into a currency union, it would be financial suicide not to. If they didn't they would be responsible for all the current UK debt and trade would be a nightmare, so the pound it will be. I am a bit scared of the future, but I will still vote yes. As Lynn says, I would be more scared if I lived in the North of England, as you guys face a lifetime of the Tories and for that, I feel for you.

I actually admire Salmond, a lot. He has not been at his best during this campaign, perhaps the enormity of it all has got to him. However over the years he has been the politician who has told the truth far more than others.

The No campaign has been horribly negative and condescending and that shows they do not understand the Scots and have been the main reason why the Yes voters has increased tremendously over the last few months. Don't forget, yes was about 38% in June!!

The above load of uneducated nonsense is one of the main reasons Scots have decided in their hoards over the last few months to vote yes!

How is it non sense? Do Scotland want to use England's army and currency ? Has Scotland not been subsidised by the English government? And do they still require subsidisation after independence? I think you will find the answer is yes. So in what world is that independence?
