  • picking up rugby again....

after a big encouragement from a good friend i decided to 'unhang' my rugby boots and pick up the game again, been a good four years since my last game and six years since playing in a competitive league...must admit i m wondering why i ever stopped . looking forward to playing in a league again this year and get stuck in the front row n this new scrum . looks like i'`m gonna have to find a good balance between fishing n eggchasing. anybody else here picked up a sport after an absence ?

I know exactly how you feel !! I think rugby gets in your blood like fishing . I spent many years at the pit face playing tight head , and still half think i could at the age of 42 , apart from the fact i need to be able to move to work lol . Good luck and enjoy

Managed 17yrs rugby without any Injury of significance untill the weekend after my honeymoon 3yrs ago. First game back and bang, cruciate tear. Game over. Not played since and miss it massively! Work were not impressed that I was office bound for 8mths lol. Three years later and the damaged cartlidge from the same injury is giving me he'll and I'm about to go for another MRI. Play as long as you can mate is my advice! You can always fall back on fishing during the summers and very poor weather in winter when the grounds frozen lol. More fish about at those times anyway lol

Been unable to play any sports for 18 months. Gained 2-3 stone, lost all fitness and in general feel like sh!t -

17th October is my (2nd) op and hopefully an end to my injury problems, cant wait to get fit again and back into my 32inch jeans

Best of luck Liam... I stopped rugby and took up triathlon! I'm champion running straight lines but can't handle the twist and turns... Lost two stone aswell... Unfortunatly muscle but feel pretty fit so not too bad!

ur not playing with gosforth are ya by any chance..?(only asking because of ur location ...i had a couple games with them 2003 )

i think the new scrums will be great if the props allow it to be . i find that some looseheads still want to reserve some attack space for the initial shove which was confusing at first but not anymore...i normally play tighthead or hook i must say i look forward to with the new season starting soon
