''Both Spurs and Sunderland are known for splurging over the odds for decidedly average talent, and the latter could be about to take one of the former's splurges off their hands, Darren Bent''. football365.com

A good signing for Sunderland? Who would you like to see coming (or going) to/from the North East clubs this summer?

I personally fancied Richard Dunne for the toon but apparently Pompey have just dangled £76 000 a week wages infront of him. Dutch striker Klaas jan Huntelaar of Ajax would be good addition if he wasn' to expensive and a creative midfielder like Jimmy Bullard for the midfield? Any thoughts? Who are going to spend more out of the north east teams this summer?

There won't be any "big names" coming to either team.

Both are bottom half of the table, no sign of European football in the near future, so nothing to offer the sort of player we all dream about having.

Bent is about as big as it'll get, I'm afraid, unless the toon do their usual and fall for the "I've always wanted to play for newcastle" foreigners, who are clearly only after huge wads of cash and have no great understanding of the club and it's fans.

    Hope I'm wrong, mind !!

heard a whisper that Van nistelrooy was going to S/land - big wages though ,so that might have a knock on affect on their kity for other signings

Dunne would be a good signing for us ,saying as Taylor is still to sign his contract and we have lost Rozehnal - i reackon we should just play two-five-three ,as we will always conceed loads of goals whoever is in defence

A whisper? Was it not a dream. As much as I love my club we'll never get anyone near that, nor will Newcastle or Boro

I can foresee another season of firefighting...unless we get some players in...which hasn't happened yet

Like the others have said, no "big" names will head this far north given that not one of us can offer very much except the "dedication" of our fans...which means nowt to most of these overpaid prima donnas

Ruud V & Keane are apparently good friends, read somewhere he's godfather to Keane's kids. I'd love to see him a red & white shirt but doubt it'll ever happen.

Just praying SAF lets us have Johnny Evans for another year at least, he's not the finished article yet but better than any defender we've got already.
            Cheers, Keith.

there was talk last week in the papers Newcastle were also looking to sign Evans on a permanent deal. Not sure how much truth there is in it but certainly the type of up and coming player the board have suggested they are after.

Talk today that the toon are ready to bid for Sebastian Larsson of Birmingham. Looked tidy enough last season and scored some good goals including the last minute screamer against Spurs at the Lane.
