  • Parental Control Software???

Can anyone recommend a decent free parental control package?

Gave the little un a PC with broadband and don't want her stumbling across any unsuitable sites.

    Cheers!
    Cheers, Keith.

Go into your internet options and switch content advisor on, then there's a tag in there that will let you put in the list of sites that you approve of. You set a password which you can then use to allow a site and add it to the list as she's browsing (ie she has to come and ask you to put the password in) it's what we used when one of the lads got it into his head to try and find free (ie cracked) games on the net and kept hitting all the porn pop-ups..

Keith I tried using parantal control software on the twin's laptops but it became a real pain in the butt when they were trying to do research for school as I had to authorise each site. Now I warn them that I will regularly be checking the history (and I do in front of them) and I have set msn / yahoo messenger to save the conversation history. They know that if they go on anything dodgy I will find out - they have been around when their big brother (26 and married) has come in and begged me to clear his of trojans etc when he has been where he shouldnt and they have heard my comments to him over the cookies that have shown up .......why do grannies do things like that ????? It seems to be working so far as I havent found anything untoward so far....other than 12 year old girls with signatures saying how sexy they are........ now that really bothers me.

The best method is supervision IMO. Have a gander past every now and then and peak at the tabs open or things that are on that bottom toolbar thingyme. Make it known that you can / will be tip toeing up the stairs and SAS'ing into their personal space (OH I just tripped - again) Say things to them like "I know you young things are clever but I KNOW EVERYTHING THAT GOES ON ON THIS COMPUTER, it's mine and I have a special what's gannin on button"

Won't make to much diferrence but at least the adrenaline will be pumping if they're up to serious no good - it may even last till half way through the next day at school and increase their performance. Everyones a winner
