Club level not good enough? Lol he has practically won everything at club level, got multiple ballon d'ors, world player of the year and golden boots and barcelonas all time top scorer with close to 400 goals, he has records like the most hatricks in the champions league etc..im sure he has proved himself with one of the worlds biggest clubs

It's hard to say as it's all opinions really.
How do you judge it or compare?
There's plenty players with more cups, medal, goals, assists etc, that have played in many different leagues, and at international level.
It helps when a team as big as Barcelona spend thousands, if not more, on your growth and development.
It also helps being the centre cog in a huge team of superstars.
Not knocking him, I think he's brilliant.
But I wouldn't go as far as saying he's the worlds best player

Got to disagree with some comments, IMO to be a world class player you have to do it on the world class stage with the pressure of the World Cup as well as all the world class players. Messi has not proved himself on an international level yet 89 games and 49 goals world class? Don't think so.

It's not pele averaged almost a goal a game think it was 89 games 77 goals that's the standard he needs to be at to be world class. To me fat Ronaldo was a world class player. I don't think messi will ever be unless he moves from barca and does it at another club as well as improve internationally

He has set more records than any player of our generation including most goals in a european season..73 goals in a single season against top class opposition and 50 of them were in the league against the likes of real madrid...players like aguero, suarez, neymar and 99% of other strikers are classed as world class yet they barely hit 30 in a season, He is also the first ever player to score a goal against every single team in the league consecutively, He also has an under 21 world cup winner medal and an olympic gold medal to his name and he is still only 27, If he isnt a world class striker then no player around today is as he beats them all hands down, The only one that comes close to him these days is Ronaldo

Messi; the best player in the world ever????
How do you judge something like that when many people today have only seen modern players; how can you judge Messi against the likes of George Best. Pele, Eusabio, Stanley Mathews, etc etc. if you didn't see those players actually play?
Messi might be considered by some as the best player of his age, even that would be very debateable. I think Maradonna would have to be considered in that argument.
Everybody seems to be talking about scoring goals as the only way to determine the best player. There's a lot more to being a great football player than scoring goals.
There have been some absolutely fantastic players down the years. I don't think it's possible to say "the best ever"; not many people alive today saw the players of the turn of the century, the 20's 30's or 40's when there were some magicians with the ball playing the game.
I'll bet if you asked some old guys in their 80's and 90's this question, they'd come up with some names from the old days.
