  • What are these?

Does anyone know what these are:

First one near Lynemouth, I had a quick drive along while I was passing, noticed the ruined buildings a few times when we've passed there, but what was it? Farm possibly?

This one near Cresswell hidden in the woods there, looks like there is some sort of curved wall to the right and down slightly from it too...

Just wanting to know because I fancied popping along and photographing them, nice to have some background info...

The first one's are definitely farm buildings, my sister used to live in the second house down, can even see her green catering trailer parked a little further up. Strange.

If I remember rightly the buildings are a bit more run down now, walls fell over and stuff.....

Oh and there is a page 3 typey woman lives on the end house, well worth a photo

Cool, cheers guys. I don't think the other one is cresswell tower - I thought the tower is the structure on the other side of the caravan site? that you can see from the road along the above the sea?

I found out what the site at Cresswell is, it's the remains of Cresswell Hall, or rather the stable block from the hall as the hall was demolished. It's well hidden in those tree's but managed to see it from the roadside, gonna pop up with the camera.

Found some scant details on google:
The new Cresswell Hall was built between 1821-5 by John Shaw. By 1930 structural faults were said to be apparent and part of the building had already been demolished. The rest of the Hall was demolished some time after 1938. The stable block, built in 1829 and some arcading remain and are a Grade II Listed Building protected by law. The gardens of the Hall were landscaped and included lawns, rock gardens, flower borders and many trees and shrubs. There was a miniature railway. And a conservatory housed exotic plants. The most striking feature of the grounds were avenues of evergreen shrubs. The rockery was formed from the vertebrae or jaw bone of a whale stranded at Lynemouth.

There was an old picture I spotted but damned if I can find it now! Looked very grand, similar in style to Belsay Hall. The remaining structure is grade 2 listed but it's all so overgrown with tree's that it's probably a real mess - I noticed a housing company's sign at the far edge of the woodland and they're clearing tree's, chances are the landowner has let the building rot so that it can be declared unsafe and demolished...
