Just read the bookies have slashed the odds on Harry Rednapp getting the job, one dodgy dealer for another?
    Cheers, Keith.

        Maclaren is 10/1.
In 3 yrs he finished 7th,won the Carling cup and got to a UEFA cup final, granted we lost.
That would make him a God on Tyneside, would'nt it?

tooly - can you change your avatar mate?...not only is it not Christmas but it's very distracting if you know what I mean ...plus I know who she is (which shows just how much time I spend on the web )

How can people say Shearer is the only way forward. I for one hope he gets the job. No doubt he would go from Massiah to zero in a season or are people so blinded up there they would never give him stick? Keano was a much cleverer player and worked under much better managers than Shearer and he's not exactly setting the world alight yet is he?

Who ever takes over in the role has to be given the SOLE right to manage the team and let him get on with that job. Too often player power at Newcastle has prevented them from going forward. What happened to Gullit when the Golden boy spat his dummy? Bobby over saw the scrags that spent more time fighting with each other than playing football.

The most successful manager are the one's that make the difficult decisions and are given the FULL support of their chairmen/owners, Ferguson with Beckham, Stam and Van Nistlerooy, Wenger with Viera, Anelka and Henry were all shipped out when they were either disruptive, not pulling their weight or became too big for their club!

I see the Toon went straight out after Allerdyce went and bought a player for 5.5m. Now what if the new manager doesn't see that player in their plans? who's making decisions like that? I thought it was the manager who decided who was best for the team?

If people who are not managers want to manage (Abrahamovic is another)....they should go out and get their badges like established managers have had to. Clubs aren't playthings for the rich! It's fans money and hopes and dreams at the end of the day

Can anyone honestly say who should be the next manager and would fulfil all expectations?

Alan Shearer would be mad to accept the poisoned chalice and the fans that are crying out for him are deluded

He may not be the only way forward but he is defo the fans choice. Was Roy Keane a Mackem legend...no. Were the fans chanting his name from the stands...no. To say Roy keane was a more clever player is rubbish. Big Al lead his line better than any other english centre forward of the past 10 years. Roy keane had heart but was a thug. And to say he played under better managers?? He played under one better manager in Alex Ferguson (the best possible) But big Al had 5 years under the guidance of Sir Bobby Robson, another geordie legend. Not to mention Dalglish, Keegan and all the england managers he played for.

Roy keane took the job coz he's irish and is being paid well. He has no alligiance to you mackems whatsoever!! You will soon find this out when you are relegated and he no longer fancies the struggle of the championship. His loyalty is to his irish mates in the board room.

I agree Big Al would be mad to take the job but name a better realistic target?? Remember he would not come in alone, he would have to have at least two top coaches in there with him. No one expects miracles, but at least the fans know he is giving his all and everyone is pulling in the same direction.

Newcastle fans shouldn't have to have those expectations dashed every season. They are consistently in the top earning clubs in the world every year. Surely that should equate to more than one (token) trophy in 40 odd years?

Bad mismanagement, more so from those at the top who have not allowed the club to be run correctly! with the manager running the team, not the players or the board!

How much is costing each week for a striker that isn't exactly chomping at the bit to get back into the first team and for nothing more than a thug to be languishing in a cell over New Year?

Re: Roy Keane....He had two of the best managers in British footie history in Sir Alex and Cloughie!!!!

What's more important is that he has the support of the board and IMHO will be given the time to succeed. He is straight to the point and not devious and IMHO belives that he himself needs the time to establish a team that can survive in the premiership for the long term and if that takes being relegated this season then he can build on successes and learn from the failures.

He saw all of that at Old Trafford with Sir Alex rebuilding many great teams and a patient, loyal board behind him!

My office at work is made up of 1 man u, 2 sunderland, 2 maggs, 1 liverpool,1 hatlepool and 1 leeds fan.

For the last day and abit we had none stop banter over this topic and narrowed it down to...

Leeds doing well but never going to be as good as they used to be.

Man U going to be great until Alex goes then who knows what will happen, past shown big players and cash dont always bring results.

Pool not worth talking about lol

Liverpool abit like Newcastle when under Keegan/Robson..always clipping at the heals but never going that bit further.

Sunderland..going down again but bounce back next season with Keane still in charge

Toon..Poor season once again that wish to see good football and our days happy with a good cup run and to be 5th-7th.

Leeds... give em 10 years and they'll be back in the prem and solid again

Liverpool, probably bang on, but are probably going to achieve more in the short term than we will

Man U and Sunderland... inextricably linked, soon as fergie gives it up that big nancy boy keane will be on the first train out of the North East to take up the job

this year, I'd like to think they'll avoid the drop and start to build something, so when he does run way from them they might have a fighting chance of staying in the bottom 5 for the following season

Us... will probably try make a big deal out of the Intertoto again to scrape into the uefa cup

Geordie "Legend" Malcolm Macdonalds theory on the radio this morning reckoned that it could be for exactly those reasons that the board may have felt it "right" to do away with him at this stage of the season
