I think it is easy to point the finger but we are all responsible to some degree for the rubbish ending up in the sea. Whether it be rubbish thrown or blown off a pier or rubbish discarded from a boat we all need to TAKE OUR RUBBISH HOME or put it in a bin.

In coarse fishing most of the clubs have a "clean bank policy" and it works or you are expelled from the club. I know it is a bit more difficult in sea fishing but a campaign to take your rubbish home wouldn't go amiss with the sea angling clubs and with marinas.

I know we have many people who sea fish who don't belong to a club or marina but once you start a campaign it becomes self-policing as people think why should I clean up and those don't.

I was shocked to read that many trawlers now have incinerators on board to burn the rubbish trawled in the nets. I think this is a shocking indictment on mankind and a reflection of the state of our seas.

I don't think piers suffer from as much littering as thought. A lot of the stuff goes in the bin and gets blown out again. Summer is the worst obviously. But I genuinely think the more remote rock marks take the worst littering such as dunstanburgh. Some people would rather leave there ****e up there then carry it back. I personally hate seeing rubbish lying around as do most of us.
