  • A cars thread.

Ive been looking at a volvo s60 , any nesa members who own one have any input on them , common faults , good and bad points etc , i'd like to hear them , thanks . ...

Owned a Volvo S80 once not what your looking at but the S80 has been the best car I've owned. Its only fault was high fuel consumption but this was due to being petrol, I would have another as long as it was a diesel model and I could find someone other than a main Volvo dealership for services etc.

A colleague of mine had a D5 and it was a good car. Quite quick and economical too.

Only issue I can remember is that the EGR valve caused problems just before he got rid of it. It had done way over 100k when this happened though and with regular cleaning, could possibly have been avoided. EGR's are problematic on a lot of modern diesels anyway so I wouldn't let this put you off, if it is a diesel that you are contemplating.

Lynn had an one for 8 years and it was 5 years old when she bought it. It was slow, heavy on petrol - 23 miles around town, expensive to insure and parts were really expensive.

Mind you it was an old car and we know nothing about them really!

We have an S40 at work as one of the pool cars.

Everyone always fights to get into that one over the other half dozen

fault ive had with both tho is the hand brake failing, which seems to be a common fault and not cheap to repair either.
not great fuel economy round the doors but sound on long runs and loves motorways,
when this one dies i'll be looking for nothing else, great cars
I noticed the hand brake on this one didn't have a lot of reserve travel when I pulled it on . Thanks for the info

Owned a s60 d5 now for nearly 3 years now most comfortable car iv had great on fuel 55 mpg on motorway not bad round town if you drive sensible mines just been through mot it only needed a ball joint to pass not bad for a 10yr old motor its done 155000 which is nothing for these engines ive seen these d5 engines with over 300000 on flee bay 1 common issue to check is the intercooler is common to develope a leak caused by grit bouncing up on motorways and stuff just have a look through bottom of front grill easy to see and another is you need volvo dealership to turn engine service lights off i cant seem to find any garage to do this good luck with yr purchase

the onl fault found personally with the s60 was the seating position parts were on the high side too. . im a 5ft 11 fattie .having driven the volvo 144 / volvo 240 /volvo 740/volvo940 . the s60 t5 had pretty good handling though .
