I do the same :-) the only problem is I don't sell the old stuff and the wife is owa the moon ( NOT )
I just tell her it's part of fishing lol
      I am a fisherman !
It is not merely something that I do
It is who I am !
Fishing is not simply my escape.
It is where I am supposed to be.
It is not a place that I go
But a lifelong journey that I am taking
It is a passage that was shown to me and that I will continue to show others.
When you understand all of this you will then know me .
      And we will fish together

There have been advances certainly with the clothing and boots over the years and headlamps have become lighter and brighter but have the rods and reels really improved that much for the average fisherman?
I have tons of gear but it is basically because I have the money to spend on my hobby/pastime, there is no way I would skint myself for the latest model of anything.

I guess just because we get older, doesnt mean we get more sensible, a hobby is a hobby, and whether its fishing, shooting, metal detecting, boats, etc, there are always new toys to play with......I like toys ....Cant wait for Santa to arrive....
