If you haven't seen this before about the soldiers on trial for killing an Afghan watch this link but beware some might be offended graphic nature of it:-

BBC News - Court releases audio of alleged Marine Afghan murder

What gets me is that if the boot had been on the other foot the Aghan would have been lauded as a hero and yet we prosecute our boys for the same thing.

Appreciation of the work that our soldiers do had been much more appreciated over the last few years with the Help for Heroes charity, etc. This does not help at all.

I know it breaches the Geneva Convention but it is war, fighting an enemy that probably couldn't give a toss about the convention seems like an unfair playing field to me

this sort of thing goes on in every conflict and although I agree the coverage of this doesn't do the help for heros much good in my opinion they deserve a medal

I guess we have to rise above it, take the moral high ground...2 wrongs and all that.

A massive travesty of justice and the poor lad now faces a life sentence for the so called crime. Someone putting his life on the line for queen and country is now a criminal.

The biggest tragedy is the comments from the Brigadier who said ""It should not have happened, and it should never happen again". I think what he really meant was it "Should never have been recorded and it should never be recorded in the future"

Sometimes you have to say the right things to protect one's future

            Enough said

The afghan was seriously wounded before he was shot dead, chances are he would have died of his injuries. More like putting him out of his misery. News coverage of these events shouldn't be allowed IMO as it only makes it more difficult for the those on the front line I.e revenge attacks.

he didn't have his heed chopped off as he walked down the street minding his own business the afghan was obviously up to no good for him to be shot in the first place cant see this being good for moral for our lads, weather you think its right or wrong the top brass should of stood by him, it should have been covered up.

please don't take this as being racist, if you do then you've took it the wrong way but ive just come back from the toilet and i was sitting thinking.... have you ever seen an Asian fisherman, like a muslim fisherman, with full on turban or whatever??? cos I havnt suppose it would keep your heed warm!!!

No he may not of chopped off his head but he executed him for no reason so he is just as bad. You cant condone his behaviour then have all out rage when someone else does it to one of our soldiers. Jus because he is a soldier does not give him any powers above the law. Yes he is fighting for queen and country but he did choose to do it no one forced him to be there. I have a massive respect for soldiers and think thy should be paid a lot more than the footballers but its never going to happen. However there is a big life risk when you sign up for the army or any forces and when people keep demanding our troops out from afghan and hostile places if the government could I am pretty sure they would

Cold blooded murder plain and simple. No better than the so called terrorists. Why are we even in Afghanistan??

I dunno, I think considering the circumstances it cant be compared to your typical cold blooded murder

Lets not forget the guy who was "executed" was a terrorist and 30 minutes earlier was trying to kill our lads/capture and video beheading - say Allah told him to do it...etc
The terrorist was badly wounded already and mortality was "likely" even had first aid been administered.

I do not deny that it is murder what our lad did and absolutely stupid what he said after killing him, which was probably the nail in the coffin....but comparing him to a terrorist and your typical murderer cant be right.

I cant help but feel an injustice here

                              "The gut was a terrorist"

A terrorist, really? He was fighting an armed foreign power who had invaded his sovereign land. Sounds like the definition of a freedom fighter to me!

Don't get me wrong I have nothing but admiration for the young men who join the army, but the government who send them to these places should be ashamed of themselves, as should we for allowing them do it in our name.
