Strange Lights?

Was anyone out fishing last night (Monday 28th October) around 18.30 and saw two orange lights travelling at high speed?

I fished Alnmouth last night from 18.30 till 20.50 (had to pick the bairn up from work or would have had longer). I'd just set up my gear when I noticed a bright orange light heading East at high speed, no noise of jets, and as I looked up with my headtorch on it seemed to arc off in a more Northerly direction and I watched it until it faded off into the distance. Minutes later there was a second identical one which followed exactly the same flight path!

Over my forty years I have seen countless shooting stars, meteorites and can definitely discount those....Aircraft always have navigation lights and there were none, if it was the glow of afterburners, they'd be going in the opposite direction and these were silent. Chinese lanterns I have seen many of, but these lights seemed to be travelling several hundred miles an hour.....

Do I need to pack in the drink?

I seen two years ago over the sea at Horden and they looked like they were leapfrogging over each other you see strange things on clear nights lol

Joking aside there are many things between heaven and earth...............

There have been a few posts on here lately about the amount of aircraft flying around so perhaps it was the RAF on night manoeuvres? You don't switch navigation lights on if you don't want to be seen

The night me and Stefan were on the beacons maybes week and a half ago maybes. Looking south back over new biggie the same thing was happening not sure what it was.

Well they must have turned their engines off as well as their navigation lights because they were completely silent.

Lived next to RAF Boulmer all my life and never seen planes civillian or military without navigation lights

it bugs me as i still dont know what they are....thinks aliens are a bit far fetched but the movements of the lights are pretty spectacular... and i grew up next to an air force base ......heres to hoping for an answer ,

Sometimes, especially at low cruising height and speed, you cannot hear the engines even on fighter aircraft due to low speed and the direction of the wind. There was a fighter aircraft flew past Whitburn on Monday afternoon and you couldn't hear a thing as the wind was coming off the shore and the plane was over the water.

Fair point, but I know these were definitely not standard jets. These were travelling at high speed, relatively low, travelling over the land heading East and then went North. There was a relatively strong S/SE wind and yet I could hear every other aircraft on the night.

The only other rational explanation to me me would be chinese lanterns, however I estimate the speed of these lights to be in excess of several hundred miles an hour and even with the wind I don't think lanterns would be travelling at that speed. Closest thing I have seen to speed would be a shooting star, but there was no trail, and the light maintained it's luminosity and seemed to veer north having already been on an Easterly path. For a second one to follow exactly the same flight path is bit out of the ordinary too!
