  • Cliff fishing

Just started doing some cliff fishing, with some success, I'm using an old oxblood ttr with a black saltiest 30 with 30 lb straight through. I've had cod up to two and a quarter pounds it was a struggle winding them up. Would using my big fixed spool help or should I make or buy a device that can get bigger fish up cliff, or will my current gear manage in the end.

Best thing to do is wind in the fish to the bottom of the cliff, then put your rod on the ground and stand on the butt with as much of the rod pushed over the edge as possible (acts as a shock absorber) then just hand-haul the line through the rings pulling the fish up. Useful for bigger fish 5lb plus - up to 3 or 4lb should be able to reel them up without too much trouble.

if you are going to fish the cliffs check before you fish them go down low water
and see what the botton is like and luck up at the top go on the cliff and look at
what its like see if theres any cracks.

Theirs a canny article in the sea angler showing you how to fish from the cliffs at marsden the guy is using a long pole with pulley like wheel he has got the pole over the cliff edge away from the cliff face and he's just reeling in his line through the wheel with a fish on "looks a canny bit of kit
