solicitors letter - downloading/uploading copyrighted game

Micky, have you been in touch with Davenport-Lyons. Seems to me to be the only way forward mate. If you have done nothing wrong and this is a scam then they will tell you straight away.

I would imagine that if you have not downloaded anything from this site then they would be on your side mate.

i'm awaiting a reply to a letter i sent recorded delivery, they will not answer any queries on the phone !

i have been in touch with several people who have recieved the same letter (message boards and the internet in general are great places to get in touch with people in the same predicament) some recieved the letter a week earlier than me and have had a response to letters they have sent, so yes the solicitors really are the ones taking action not some third party purporting to be them. as i said this seems an amateurish attempt to extort money but i can't for the life of me understand why a large reputable solicitors would be involved with this !

Right onto how i think this is done.

take this forum for instance just as an example every single person who post here
a admin/mod can see their ip address + email clear as day as it is shown on each post.

Now imagine topware was a scam company and had 3rd person working for em.
most people use a ISP email address to signup to a forum/p2p/torrent site anything
well that ISP email address only means you are a contracted member of that isp.
so now they have your email + IP so they know when they fabricate the evidence
as anyone can use photoshop or write your details in a fake log file.

they then contact a IP lawyer and give them all the fake proof and evidence
the lawfirm takes the case seriously and gets in touch with your isp.

they have your IP + email address they have the lawfirm + the fake evidence.

boom! thats how its done and i bet ya a penny to a peice of $hit its topware scaming.
the law firm just can't take its head out of it's arse to smell the rat!

come on... 200 + people all being done for downloading some ****ty Pinball game?
with all the top quality contents out there today... pinball????"

apologies on the de-frag, forgot to add, de-frag re-sorts the used chunks so that a full file is stored indexed serially instead of "Fragmented" across the media. The deleted areas still contain the data you wish to eliminate (in small un-ordered bits) but they start by 0 in first byte and are "EXTREMELY FRAGMENTED" with no means of index. If you really do wish to erase these completely, simply copy over as many BIG files as you can after de-frag until disc is almost full, then delete all the stuff you`ve just copied ................. all originals will be overwritten and effectively erased (I should of mentioned this the first time)

the deleted areas are likey to be overwritten by the defrag process, when the sectors of 'real' files ar put in order, but not guaranteed to be, so a full overwrite is always best.

but before everyone goes into full panic mode I still wouldn't be too worried about it. Still reckon mickeys letter is a scam at worst or at best a 'try-on' to test the water for future use

but being a smug mac user...... all HD data is now encrypted on a mac - 244 bit encryption as well, anyone looking in the 'unused' sectors will just find garbage. macs are now used throughout the CIA/us military for that reason among others. Plus, there's a cool little feature called 'stealth mode' when your using the internet, it leaves no trails, can spoof its own broadcast IP address, and as far as anyone trying to connect remotely, even while downloading something will get no response, almost as though this machine doesn't exist....... did I mention viruses/spyware already!!

for a laugh I just turned it on, and its broadcasting 81.5.132.169 dyn-81-5-132-169.dsl.eclipse.net.uk. which is curious as I'm a BTbroadband customer in the north east
