  • A Question from my Six Yr Old Littl`n

while coming home today my six yr old Daughter got on about pylons and why they are spread all over (this country and others etc) she then asked about the electricity they carry and how it gets up there from the power stations / turbines Etc Etc ,which i was able to explain in a manor that a six your old would understand - then the killer question !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if you turn the switch on in London when would the electricity get to " Our House"

    Could i answer ,could i Hell !!!!

So Lads any Pylon workers out ther that can answer this

Power Station produces power connected to Pylon that is not live in London (or any other miles away place) then switch is flicked ,how long does it take to come through the cables - before you get Zapped should you be messing about with them

Funny how there little minds work ,but i did say i would try and find out ,so heres asking and hoping

    Cheers All

We're sorry to say that the page you're looking for isn't here. Like daddy used to say, 'sorry don't feed the bulldog!' so let us make it up to you! From here, you can: Let us know about the problem Read more North Carolina Stories Or, you can go back...

Looked at a couple more and they seemed to be giving a similar answer mate.

Lol......don't you just love kids' questions

I'm no expert Bri, but I'd guess it's pretty much instantaneous (give the odd millisecond or 2)...lol

just ever so slightly slower than the speed of light! (well the electrons do anyway) around 186,000 miles per second so from london the toon would take about 0.0016 seconds

          but bizzarely....

electrical charge (measured in Coulombs) as a component of power moves really slowly.... about a millimetre a second

basically because you need gazillions of electrons to make 1 Coulomb of charge, and the electrons are nice and polite and travel in single file!

I knew there's was a reason I did a degree all those years ago!

The poor girl at the next table nearly choked on her drink lmao.

Hmmmmmmmm wonder if it would work on the ears too.

Not sure if I fancy being wired up to two Pylons though.

Bri, cracking thread by the way mate. Don't let your daughter read it though or she will be checking your lugs and beak for hairs lol.

Hahahahahaha no, if you remember I got that windmill hat that does the job quite nicely.

I actually know someone that has more head lights than I do.

He has been quiet tonight, not surprised though as he had a VERY good day out today lol.

Electricity going down a wire is not like a pea being blown down a straw it is more like a hose already full of water. If you put a bit extra water in at one end some gets pushed out of the other end almost instantly I think.
