On the serious side, any explanation from ebay regarding the hack, did somebody get hold of your ebay account details and maliciously load the items up for sale and if this is the case, how did they get hold of your account details? Or was there some kind of glitch on the ebay servers which corrupted your account data?

                  Dear pugz6ja9

It appears that a third party gained access to your eBay account and used it without your authorisation. The email address on your account may have been changed, so you may not have received any emails regarding this activity.

We have taken steps to secure your eBay account, including changing your password and placing a temporary restriction on your account. Any unauthorised activity has been cancelled and any associated fees have been credited to your account. We assure you that your credit card and bank details are stored on a secure server and cannot be viewed by anyone.
. it looks like i opened a message from someone posing as buyer who wanted to know about an item i was selling.

                  Dear pugz6ja9

We have temporarily disabled the automatic payment of your invoices.

If you are not an active seller, then our action should have no effect upon your account, and the following information is simply for your information.

If you have offered any items for sale recently, or plan to offer items in the near future, then please review the following information carefully, as your personal action may be required to ensure payment of your fees.

For the next 30-60 days, eBay will not attempt to make automatic payment for the invoices of your selling fees. There are several aspects of this action that we would like to make clear:

                  * If a payment is already in progress, this Exclusion may not stop it. If an automatic payment goes through in the next few days, and you believe the payment might include inappropriate amounts, then please immediately contact our Billing team through the Live Help link on our eBay.com home page.

                  * The Exclusion will remain in effect for 30 to 60 days. This means that if any valid fees are due within your account for the current invoice - or the next invoice, a manual one time payment may be required to keep your account current.

                  * The Exclusion does not affect the due date of fees that are valid. This means that if you have an amount due for items you have listed or sold, and the Exclusion prevents automatic payment, then you will need to make a manual one time payment by the next invoice date to remain current in your account.

                  * If manual payment is necessary, please visit our Site Map page, and use the "Make a Single Payment" near the bottom of the center column.

We regret any inconvenience the Exclusion may cause, and we assure you that our sole intent is to ensure that our automatic payments include only amounts that are appropriate for your account.

If you have any questions in regard to your amount due, or would like more information about manual payments, please use the Live Help link on the home page to contact our Billing team at any time, 24 hours a day.

                  Regards,

Customer Support (Trust and Safety Department)
                  eBay Inc.

this is all the hastle i have to put up with when things like this sh**e happen

                  cheers

Mark, they are not giving a lot away there, but I suppose they have to protect their credibility with the public. I think they do have server side problems as I frequently miss out on the automatic emails for watched items, it appears that what ever automatic process that is supposed be running doesn’t kick in and I miss out on two or three days worth of notices. I have missed out on items that I would have bid on through this problem. I would however expect them to log some kind of audit trail (IP addresses etc.) for transactions so they can at least try and track down the villains.

I guess you fell foul of a 'phishing' email. click to respond to it and what looks like an ebay page opens which you log into

always watch the address that comes up should you ever click the links in one of those emails. If in doubt forward the email to spoof@ebay.co.uk.

you usually get a response fairly rapidly confirming wether or not it was an authentic email in the first place

thanks for the concern and advice lads, i have been on ebay since 2002 and this i the 1st and hopefully last time i get stung and i that time i have 312 feedback with only 2 neg and both of them were a pain in the ass, both of which could have been avoided. mind saying that after the feedback i left for one of them i am not supprised i got neg lol.
                        Negative feedback rating
item did not turn up. typical pain in the arse american. do not use!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                        Seller joeycorker ( private.

just to add i buy quite a bit from the states and she was the only one who left me neg, i even took her to square trade. a waste of time. she still has my £48 and my item. square trade did nothing to help even when i appologised for uncalled for feedback i left. the emails i got from this seller were bad to say the least.
all other american sellers and buyers have been great and i do not tar them with the same brush.

                        chers

Unfortunately eBay has turned into a global rogue’s paradise for both buyers and sellers. I don’t think ebay does enough to ensure equity in either direction, perhaps some insurance from ebay that ensures that when something goes wrong either genuinely or falsely then both parties walk away with no financial loss or gain. If there is no win or loss situation then the rogues won’t try it on.

I've had one or two suspect emails from Ebay, which I returned thinking they were dodgy and asked for confirmation, one was dodgy however the others were genuine but I did'nt get a explanation off them why I was sent a warning about my account, all very strange and I agree with Chris that there is alot of problems with Ebay which they wont admit to,to be honest theres far to many dealers on there now and if you shop around you can normally pick the item up cheaper else where
                              Cheers Alan...
