  • Virgin Media or Sky

I've been with Telewest / Virgin media for years now ,however looking at the deals from Sky , broadband ,tele and phone they seem very very tempting ,my line is rated to 18meg so I could get there 16 Meg broadband service .... anyone got any comments to make ? are Sky good for service etc. and is the broadband as good as it sounds ?
Any information will be most appreciated.

        Lucky bugger Steve.

Cable hasn't reached the wilds of Alnwick yet !

        I'm stuck on 2 meg.

          Steve,

I use sky broadband and it is superb. I pay a fiver a month on top of the usual sky package.

Its basically instantanious (up to 16Mb).

The kit is good quality and I've had no problems with the service.

If you have wireless on a laptop you'll find that quick too!

I wouldn't swap provider and I hear more and more people saying they are swapping to Sky.

          Defo recommend

I use both Steve, I've got TW (now Virgin) for the Broadband & phone, but I hated their TV boxes it took ages to change channels so I've got Sky+. However I'm told the new V+ boxes on cable are much better. A lad at work got:

V+ HD box with all channels (record 2 channels while watching a 3rd)
a normal box in another room.
            10 Meg Broadband
            free national calls
            cheap international calls
            cheap mobile calls

            for £85 per month.

            edit:

Also heard the sky BB is very good, maybe it's best to just keep playing one off against the the other.

You can haggle if you aren't interested in any parts of the package.

Cheers lads ,Keith I looked at that package and was told about it by the lassy when I rang to see what they had to offer , basically I can have £10.50 a month off my bill or upgrade to the package you posted ,too much money for me as I don't watch much telly and use my free mobile minutes instead of the home phone.
Steve that's just the answer I was waiting for , they have so much more to offer for less money ,the only thing I was worried about was the broadband and you reckon that's fine ... looks like a change is in order.

I'm with Sky having changed a month ago. I'm on broadband max which costs £10 a month which gives speeds up to 16mb and unlimited downloads.
I have however had teething troubles with a dodgy router and erratic connection problems. Unfortunately Sky's technical people are in Northern Ireland and lengthy calls to them are not included in the free Sky Talk deal.
When the service is working it is very good and certainly cheaper than what I used to pay. I am however reserving judgement for the moment.

Fishless ,you have to give 30 days notice to Telewest /VM in the meantime Sky will schedule your connection for 28 days so you lose no service .
Tony ,thanks for that ,I know not everyone always gets good services and it's a big step for me really as the Virgin Media / Telewest service has been second to none ,unfortunately for them Sky is offering much more for less money.

just changed over to sky talk and broadband in the last few min, still on pipex at the moment but modem should be here in 5 days, was paying £14.99 to pipex for 2.2 mbps, when connected with sky i will be paying £5 per month for 8mbps with 40gig download space ( i dont download). there is a one off fee of £20 for modem. this is the middle package i have got. for phone line i have gone for free evening and weekend calls as i am out all day on this one i only pay line rental to bt which is £10.99.( calls to mobile europe and chanel isles will be charged at normal rate). used to be with pipex for phone but was paying, last month bill £36.
my sky tv package is £37.
old bill was sky 37, phone 30 apx, broadband 15. total £82
new bill, sky 37, phone 11, sky broadband 5. total £53
                          saving of nearly £30.

glad i am not with virgin lol, no simpsons!!!!!!
lets just hope it all works when i get it
