  • Help.

As a few people on here know I am allergic to lugworms. When fishing on Friday night I came off Blyth beach with boxers eyes. I have tried to think of different ways to combat this with not much luck. I can not remember putting my hands anywhere near my eyes and the only answer I can come up with was the wind blowing debri from my hooks when I was casting.

The only thing I can come up with is to go to an Optician and buy a pair of clear glassses. I don\"t want to use goggles cos they won\"t last five minutes without becoming blurred.

If anyone has a solution or even a daft idea that might just work I would be very grateful as not fishing any more is not an option.

    Jim.

    Tricky one that, Jim.

I know you say goggles are a no-no, but you can get cheap protective goggles from DIY stores and you\'ll only need to wear them when baiting up & casting. They may well become \"blurred\", but then so will clear specs. It\'ll be a lot cheaper to buy a new pair of placky goggles than to replace optician bought specs.

Jim,Tony,i use protective specs at work and they are not the \"goggle\" type they just look like old fashioned jam jar bottom specs with side protection plates and they are reasonbly comfortable and should last a long time.
Jim do you wear surgical gloves to help the problem ?

Cheers Lads, Tony the only problem with those plastic goggles once they have been wiped a few times they get all blurry where as the glass ones can just be wiped clean each time.

I didn\"t think of those protective ones Alan. Will have a pair of them straight away and see how it goes with them. They will go easily in me floaties pocket. As for the surgical gloves, I have tried them a couple of times but can\"t feel the bait if you know what I mean. Keep putting the hook through the worms or squashing them which doesn\"t help either lol.

                  Jim,

I presume that your hands are reasonably tolerant to lugworm juice but your eyes that give you aggro. As a wearer of glasses I would say don\'t go there if you can help it, they are a pain to keep clean when fishing. One idea I have is to use a barrier cream on your face, especially around the eyes, but not in the eyes. Nivea or Neutrogena would probably be OK, but check with a doctor/pharmacist first. Also wash any traces off your hands cause you may taint your bait with hand/face cream smells.

cheers never thought of barrier creams will have a visit and see my doc. I know where your coming from about wearing glasses being a nightmare as I used to wear them all the time.

                      John

I use all of the other baits allready so no change there.Am gonna start a bit of fluff chucking this year, hope it works. tried the golf for quite a few years, never had a single bite. Overated in my opinion mate lol.
