The benefit system was set up for the right reasons, but now is sadly abused and simply isn't fit for purpose, I hate benefits britain, something like £150 billion spent on benefits last year by the government, thats £3billion a week, combined with a shocking immigration policy no wonder this once great country is on its knees.

In My opinion If you're fit enough to go fishing you're fit enough to work, or at least fit enough not to be "on the sick"
I think some of you guys need to do a bit of homework and stop looking at headline figures from the Sun or Mail.

A single adult get £71.30 per week jobseekers allowance. if they have a mortgage they get the interest only paid, not the mortgage, so their debt does not reduce. If they live in rented accommodation, most of that is paid. An average of 83% of weekly benefits go on housing. Why are there so many people living in rented accomodation? Because the Tories sold all the council houses! In the older days, people who were unemployed often lived in council houses, so while they didn't pay rent, the Government was not paying out any money, they just lost out on the rent. Now they pay out millions of pounds to private landlords, who are rich anyway and typically Tory supporters and ignorant people blame the unemployed for the cost!

The scandal is paying private landlords huge rents, the unemployed never see the money, so this nonsense of £25,000-£30,000 a year on the dole is just that, nonsense! 80% plus is given straight to landlords.

Try living on £71 a week!! You can't! Which is why I presume some people work on the side!! Who can blame them??

Oh and previous to me being on the sick I ran my own company bonny lad that I have just sold and I can promise you I done more than 12 hour shifts without dinner and other breaks. some might say I have a nice place to live 2.
never thought you could get benefits,If you ran your own company and made your money ,always thought that benefits were mean tested for those that needed it

So they have their rent paid but they don't see the money? Rubbish

My point was if they can work on the side , they can work legitimately, but many choose to claim benefits and do a bit fiddle as they are better off financially!

The scandal is that people on benefits can be better off than people who work.

I can't see how you, or anyone, can condone or even encourage benefit fraud, fraudulent claims / errors cost this country around £6 billion a year!

And as far as doing my homework is concerned, I worked for the department for works and pensions for 7 years, (administrative and managerial capacity) so please don't try and be so condescending as to suggest that my comment was purely based on tabloid headlines...

So you'll be unemployed but not claiming any state beneift then? You'll need to contact your local benefit office, make sure you sort out N.I contributions etc, you can't just fall off the system, it doesn't work like that.

There is no stigma to anyone having a genuine benefit claim, it's the fraudster's, liars and cheats who need stopping.

and yes there are lads unemployed through no fault of there own
think back to when this country was called GREAT BRITAIN
the world leader in every industry, under mainly labour control (never lets the working class move forward) we should be one of the richest country's in the world, all we are is a soft touch with benefit culture
the lads will be outside the club today with there tabs and drinking there benefit money ,well that's my lunch over, roll on 7 pm when I finish another bloody hard 12 hour shift paying tax for this benefit society we live
and no disrespect to the guys looking for work (good luck)
the country needs a good shake up (close the doors) send those back that should not be here, and get Britain back to work and give the country its status back
