I do believe that Northumbrian Water have decided to stop UV sterilising sewage that is discharged off a number of our beaches during the winter.
Here's the justification that tripped off their PR man's forked tongue - "We can save the equivalent of 12 perfillion microsmegs of CO2 being released into the atmosphere as a result of this decision"
Saving the planet by pumping untreated sewage into the sea, you got me there.
"We are only turning it off when there are no people swimming in the sea"
What about the Surfers and fish and everything else?
"They'll be safe anyway the waters not that bad"
Why use the UV in the first place then?
Then the adverts came on.
If he'd told the truth- "Look we just can't afford it, I know it stinks but it's either this or a Youth Club that goes!" We'd respect him and say fair play, not your fault mate. What a Job
