Read this on Andy W's site thought you lads with diesels might find it interesting:

If you drive a Diesel vehicle, this will interest you

Do you want to save money?
Do you want more miles to the gallon?
    Do you want better performance?

If yes to these, read on.....

I have been testing out an additive to put in your diesel for a while now and this definately does everything I have mentioned.
I was getting 500 miles to the tank of diesel in my 1800 escort van & now I am getting just under 700.
My diesel tank holds 47 Litres, so that is 10 Gallon. Obviously I was getting 50mpg but am now at 70mpg

The performance of my engine has definately got one hell of a lot better also.
When overtaking, there is no need to drop a gear to accelerate quickly and it is a lot smoother than before.

What is the additive I hear you ask...... ACETONE
Basicly the same stuff as nail varnish remover but without the additives.

Take it from me, This stuff actually does work.
I would not tell you guys if it did not.

Acetone is not noticable in the amounts that are used and is not illegal to put in your tank.
It actually lowers your emissions on your vehicle and cleans your fuel lines and injectors at the same time.

If you did not already know, you cannot burn every single piece of diesel, there is waste that does not burn in a diesel engine.
The Acetone makes this usually wasted part burn where it is needed, in the cylinders.

    The way to use Acetone....
Always add into a full tank of fuel.
The best way to do this is to start with a lower ammount than you will actually find works best in your engine.
I found it best to start with 1ml per litre of diesel then go up by 1/2ml per litre after you have used that full tank.
Take a reading of the miles you get on your tank of fuel with the 1ml of acetone added then when you refill, add 1 1/2ml per litre and take a note when you are ready to fill up again.
If your mpg has gone up again, then it is safe to try another 1/2ml per litre of diesel.
Keep this up until you actually notice a drop in mpg.
Once you notice this, then it is the last amount you used before noticing a drop in mpg that you will be best using.
All cars can be slightly different regarding what amount is best.
In my own, I actually use 1 1/2ml per litre.

Don't worry, Acetone DOES NOT damage your engine.
One of my mates has been running it for over a year in his car and it has had no adverse effects on his engine at all.

You can expect a rise in miles per gallon anywhere from 10 - 20 mpg

1 Gallon of Acetone only costs £10 but that will last you nearly a year as it is only Millilitres that you are using per tank of fuel.

GIVE IT A TRY, YOU WILL BE AMAZED.

I guarantee you, this is not a wind up, it actually works.
    Cheers, Keith.

interesting, will have to quiz my tame chemistry nerd to fins out what the chemical implications are, puzzling though as acetone is highly corrosive, especially to anything made of plastic (tanks/fuel lines/filters/return valve membranes/ oil seals)

I mean to say it melts fibreglass!

my bio diesel experiment is still going by the way, nearly 6000 miles on the discovery and engine wise everything is still tickety boo (don't ask about wheel bearings and clutch though!)

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

I've heard similar things myself Keith although I'm not too certain of them myself ,kerosene is also another cheap way of running a deisel car so I'm told but as I'm getting 45 to 50 MPG at the moment I'm quite happy ,I'd love to get feedback from anyone who tries the Acetone though.
You can take the lad out of Walker but .......

Cheer's for that keith, but this is not aimed at you mate. I have worked with the said Acetone a lot of years ago and if I was posting that any where I would have made a warning that it is one of the most combustable agents that I have ever come across.

Did the post come with a name Keith or was it from a "New member".

It is really dangerous stuff, if you don't believe me then check out Mark's post.

Do you want to save money?
Do you want more miles to the gallon?
          Do you want better performance?

You bet we do to all of them but!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There was a big Chemical fire near to where I live quite a few years ago. I watched it from a great distance and it was still quite frightening. It was caused by a fork lift truck puncturing a drum of Acetone. It caused hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage.

I am not saying that it is not true but be careful what you read on tinternet.

          Jim.

Spot on Jim, we used to use it a work to "weld" broken spectacles back together. Nasty stuff!!!!

"Did the post come with a name Keith or was it from a "New member"."

The post came from a long standing member who works in the motor trade.

I hope he doesn't mind me copying the thread over.
            Cheers, Keith.

it is extremely good for removing gloss paint off carpets, i know after son in his younger days dropped one and spread it around with his hands. That is if the chemists will give you enough. What they dont tell you is it rots the underlay, well melts it. Use with extreme caution i would say.
