You don't need to be able to compress a rod to use it, Makes me laugh when people say that, Stiff rods are used mainly on heavy ground and cliff marks where a big cast is not needed so you don't need to be a big caster to use a stiff rod
Stiff rods are better used for bullying fish through kelp etc However being able to compress & cast a stiff rod properly is a deffinately an advantage on some marks.......
