Welcome to the forum matey, fishing gear depends on how much you want to pay, loads of advise on here.In order to become "old & wise", you must first be young & stupid.
Age and experience will beat youth and enthusiasm every time.
Youth and Skill is no match for Age and Treachery.

id nit go sending a lot of money on rods ext at the mo just get your self a fixed spool and a second hand rod a few leads and rigs from the tackle shop so you can copy the rigs wen you want to make some. and most impotent a good flask and some warm gear. you can senns100s on fishing gear and who knows you may not like it. this time of your the Tyne fishiis well with rag lug and crab.

Welccome mate. Like said get a fixed spool reel. I'd go for a budget priced starters rod, reelsport or other local shops will give you good advice and set you up. Avoid Shields pier as if your just starting and not yet getting good distance you'll have a nightmare with snags. Some river marks will probably be better. Some lads on here know the snag free ones.

like the lads have said, welcome mate, start off with a budget set up, or buy decent second hand gear just until ya sure ya gonna enjoy it and stay into it, then get better gear. What area are you from ?
maybe next time you want to go out fishing you might be able to tag along with some of the lads, and pick up some tips as well. Enjoy ya stay on NESA
