HORNSEA SAC CHRISTMAS OPEN MATCH REPORT
SATURDAY 27th DECEMBER 2008
Hornsea SAC held the 1st of its Annual Christmas beach open matches on Saturday 27th December 2008. The H.C.F.Open fishing from 10am to 4pm with boundaries of Sewerby Steps to Paull Lighthouse had an entry of 112 anglers including 2 Juniors.
On a cold day with a strong South East wind the sea looked perfect for a good days Cod fishing and as is usual on an Easterly the Whiting seem to move out to deep water, consequently only one of this species were weighed in. The Cod however put in a better showing but catches were still scattered.
John Ward who normally fishes with Phil Darby, came down from the North East on his own and managed to pocket £450 with his winning Tunstall fish of 3.04Kg. No need to share on this occasion!!! Hornsea Club member from Beverley, Phil Linguard had a good day beaching several Aldbrough Cod for a bag weight of 6.74Kg including the days Second place biggest fish of 2.96Kg.Driffield SAC members always seem to get into the prize lists in open matches, this time it was the turn of Rich Wiley with a 2.84Kg Hilston Cod.
Best Whiting 0.46Kg was caught by John Aylward HSAC and biggest Flat Ian Beadle 0.34Kg were the other Senior winners.
Hull Junior B.Pearson won the Junior prize with a Tunstall Cod of 0.86Kg.
