Bob White Memorial Match 6TH July 2008
Fished between Lynemouth Pipe to Seahouses Harbour
With only the odd flounder and small codling coming to the scales within the first half hour of the weigh in things looked pretty ominous. However as those who had travelled a bit and had been held up by a diesel spillage on the Beadnell to Warkworth road, started to arrive a few better bags started to be weighed in, and as the deadline approached Steve Williams of Jarrow weighed in the heaviest bag of four cod for 9lb 0.25oz taken from the Emblestones. Just minutes before Steve Geoff King of Burradon, had weighed in with four fish for 8lb 4oz, taken at Newton, with Amble angler ken Middlemist weighing in two cod from Beadnell, on his last two casts for 7lb 15.75oz. Dave Allinson from Scarborough landed the heaviest fish a cod of 5lb 10oz, taken at Seahouses. Alnwick angler Paul Buddles had the second heaviest a cod of 4lb 10.75oz taken from the Torrs at Boulmer, with Whitley Bay angler Chris Stringer third with a cod of 4lb 9.75oz, taken at Beadnell. James Bowstead won the junior section with a flounder of 12.75oz taken from Warkworth Beach. Although the catches where below par for the area at this time of year, mainly due to the unsettled conditions, there where still some decent codling and wrasse taken, plus a few flounders and coalfish, with fresh crab fished into the heavy ground on a single hook rig taking most of the codling and wrasse, with a mixture of worm and fish strip taking the majority of the flounders from the sandy beaches.
Thanks to the efforts of Amble SAC and the anglers themselves a total of £452 was raised for St Oswald’s Hospice.

Hornsea SAC held its second “Christmas Open” on New Years Day. Fishing high tide down on a 4.6metre tide with a stiff Southerly breeze and rain from start to finish, it was not an easy days fishing and those Whiting that make up bag weights seem to have gone awol!
However there were still some good quality fish caught and the 88 anglers who entered contributed to a £750 prize fund.
Gary Bowes won a few prizes on the raffle but that was the only luck he had on the day when losing a big double figure Bass at the waters edge at Skipsea. One mans loss is another’s gain as Stu Daniels picked up £330 for his 3.08Kg (6lb-10oz) Cod from Ringborough, his only fish of the day,
As well as the odd good fish, there does seem to be a preponderance of small Codling being caught so the beach fishing scene looks better now than it has for several years.
Best placed Hornsea Club member in the seniors was Stu Ashbridge who had a second place with a 2.20Kg Cod and a bag weight of 5.14Kg and in the Juniors was again Craig Beadle who had a 0.84Kg Cod.
