Hi all
once again record breaking herring have been taken from our piers or so it first appears, but rather than getting your arms full of prizes from angling mags for a record breaker the chances are you will end up with a hefty fine instead. The fish are not herring but shad which are a protected species and must be returned, ignorance is no excuse. Attached is a diagram to help anglers identify these fish, if you have a web site, tackle shop or club house could you please make this available, as a general rule of thumb if you catch a herring bigger than 14oz, I suggest you put it back.
