I spoke to one of the lads who work on Roker beach and pier today about the reason the pier is still shut.He said that the reason is the big chunks of concrete missing from the walkway. They don't know when they'll get the manpower to tarmac the holes.Another problem is the lack of warning cones. The last lot were borrowed from Washington and they've all gone. I don't know if this is the result of the big seas or vandalism.
On a personal note, I find it pathetic that a pier, built by the Victorians over a century ago, can't be maintained properly by Sunderland Council. Why use tarmac? Surely a decent repair with concrete has got to be more cost effective. I can't see the tarmac lasting any time at all.
Rant over, and sorry for posting on catch reports but I thought a few people might want to know what's happening.
