  • Utterly Dire South Shields Easter Sunday

As it says on the tin. Had to take the FPO in to work at the RVI for 08:00 this morning so thought I may as well hoy the gear in the car and spend the day on Shields pier. Got to the end for 08:30ish to find a few other lads already down, set up at the far SE corner at the end of the big wall.

Anyway long (very long - 10 1/2 hours ) story short it was dire. Fished the rest of the ebb off the end for a solitary undersize codling; the others there had one size codling, a big Pouting and a couple of Dabs for there efforts. After the tide turned moved down to the 42, fished here until just after 4:30pm with just a couple of little rattles and no fish.

Made the move down to the Hole in The Wall for the last of the flood, 2 1/2 hours here saw another undersize codling and a beautifully marked Bullhead (bright blue underneath and mottled greeny / brown on top) and that was my lot.

Baits were Lug, Rag, Bluey and frozen crab, tried a variety of rigs but it was just very poor with hardly anyone catching anything of note and I can't see things improving until things warm up and we get a spell of settled, warmer weather

That's a long session for little return mate, well done for sticking at it. Think I'll give the pier a miss then.
