Got out on Friday night from about 6.30pm till gone 10pm fishing the tide back. Tried down at Newbiggin bay towards the south end. Nice still calm night with a bit of movement on the sea and I thought that maybe just maybe might get something decent. Alas not! First cast terriffic tug on the line then nothing.pulled in and the hook was just about clean of bait bar a tiny peice of rag so something had the lot. Nothing till about 8ish then 3 fish in three casts. 1 cod or to be precise "codlet" about 12in long and rockling about the same length for the other two. A bit of a break for about half hour then another two rockling of the same size as previous. Last cast of the night another massive pull on the rod followed by little tugs. Reeled in but nothing there but a half empty hook.
There's something out there and I will catch it one day..... but at least I didn't blank. Baits used Rag, runny, fresh mussel and combo's of all three.
Must say the Rag from North East Tackle in Grangetown sunderland was outstanding. I've seen smaller snakes.......
