I headed out last night to fish the the Tyne, four hours up and one hour down. The plan was to get started on the species hunt so I fished two rods one with a 3/0 pennel rig and the other with a two hook flapper size 1 and a big selection of baits - live lug and rag, frozen blacks, mackerel, squid, raw prawn and bag of live mussel which were half price in Sainsburys only £1.50 for a kilo! Anyway, I ended up at Brighams in South Shields and spent the first half of the session fishing from the Spirit of South Shields then when the tide rose high enough I moved along to the front of the call centre building.
It was a quiet night with no wind, light but persistant drissle and the water was as flat as a witches tit. First cast I pulled in a double shot of tommies on the two hooks of the pennel rig. It was quiet after that with just two more tommies and a small flounder. So only five little-uns to show for five hours fishing. I would say it was "better than sitting in the house" but at that time of night I would have been tucked up in a nice warm bed so it probably wasn't
