  • Roker Thursday 10th

Got to the roundhead and fished the steps into the estuary side from 8 til 11.30. Tried small baits on a starlight float. Got 2 fish, smallest was a short spined sea scorpion on a 2 inch bit of black, then a tadpole fish on a squid head. Only got 2 bites on a 2 hook flapper with blacks and squid, one of which resulted in a 5 inch plaice I think. Gunna put pics up in the species hunt. Slow night judging by the craic from the other anglers. One fella had a codling bout 1.5lb. 3 more species tho, if the plaice is a plaice...

...plaice or spotty flounder? Underside was herringboned but I didn't take a pic. Sure I will get another at some point if it's a contentious plaice/flounder.

Sorry! But it looks like a Flounder to me especially with the rough scales along the dorsal line and the spots being very faint. Never mind its better than nowt!

You can tell it's a flounder by the hard lumps along the lateral line. If you run you finger along it will feel bumpy. On a plaice it is smooth (no lumps). Definately a spotty flounder here.
