Nah, you've got that wrong, most "shooting stars!" are meteorites, small pieces of space debris, small as a pea. or a marble that burn up through friction as they enter the earths atmosphere.
Satellites look like moving stars, only visible while they are reflecting the light from the sun. The easiest way to spot them is, stare at one star for a while, and if there are any satellites in that area, you will see them moving in your peripheral vision.

I also fished last night and witnessed the spectacle. It really was good to watch.

I know what your saying Dave and im sure i can't. Seen a programme on sky about it,Reports of shooting stars have rapidly risen since the 80s. Theres thousands of satelites around our atmosphere so many so that its redused the chances of it been a actual shooting star by 80% They burn out and malfunction and the direction they head to is earth. It could of been a SKY diver returning home Or many

                        Meteor showers and Submarine's

As A Radio Ham would you believe it we bounce signals of the Meteor showers ..so called shooting stars ..and work the world. By that I mean that signals can bounce down in New Zealand, Hawaii, Japan, Etc you name it .. RF energy from our Transmitters are beamed toward's them, the guy's across the globe do the same ..We have some real interesting contacts via outer space..if that sound's strange , here's one for you ..we also use the moon..We bounce signals of that celestial body too .. Look it up, earth moon earth..usually fast data ..Morse code etc ..but we do use the moon as a sat. Its like fishing ..you never know what your going to catch

One of my my most interesting conversation's was with a
United States of America submarine radio operator ..Just emerging from under the polar Ice cap ! one stormy December night back in 1987..I have a letter from that guy to prove it .. biggest thing I ever pulled out of the sea !

If that sound's stranger than fiction I also chat to Astronauts! ..A lot of them are Radio Ham's ..on the space station..Hey I also get to work with search and rescue providing comms in adverse conditions usually ...that's another story.
