    Tony,

I'm fishing there in October in a competition any advice would be appreciated. I've fished the inside before so I now how that fishes but I'd be interested in how you fished the outside where on the breakwater you fished (was it better on the end or closer to the shore), how far out you fished was it better closer in or further out (I know there's horrible ledge on the outside that grabs your gear on the retrieve).

I now the fishing will be slightly different in October but any information would be appreciated

    Cheers

I fished the outside and only had wrasse but like you say there's a ledge which is difficult to get over to say the least, between 150-200yds from the end inside was good for smoothies and dogfish but can't see there being any smoothies around then but the same area seawards apparently fishes well with rotten bottoms in autumn/winter
The end of the pier also fished well 2hrs either side of low water as there is a strong rip tide at high, most baits did well but I did best with fresh crab, squid and sand eel (or cocktails of these) Winnie from Winnie's Worms Bait Shop reckons fresh blacks do the business late in the year along with the usual fish baits
A local lad gave us some good advice about a shot facing the breakwater at the old Tesco store site underneath a large white chimney he reckons a couple of hrs either side of high water but best in the dark so don't know if your tied to the breakwater for your comp

Some of our lads fished the first bend and had smoothies, doggies and wrasse tight to the wall but not as prolific as just before the end

Take an inhaler and travel as light as you can as it's walking still not driving on haha some hike , good luck with your comp and hope this helps

Boathouse Hotel is right next to the breakwater and is great if your staying over

      Cheers

        Cheers for the advice Tony.

Its a pegged match so I'll be in the lap of the gods as to where I get pegged but I will have a second pick of zones. We are stying in Beaumaris so it's quite a trek from the hotel to the venue.

Havent seen you on the North side of the river for a while, I assuming you've given up scratching!

        Cheers again
        Dave
