Fished on Seaham Hall Beach between 1830hrs and 2230hrs in work related comp with 12 anglers in total who were all at the North end of the prom. The wind had died off nicely and there was a canny sea on with plenty of colour. 6oz grippers were getting pulled to the right a lot because of the strength of the tide, should have bent the last half inch of the gripper over to help (silly me for forgetting basics).
About 9pm I noticed a slack liner and struck into a decent fish, and within minutes a nice 59cm Cod was beached (5lb 8oz) my first cod of the season and also a Pb as I only took to the shore fishing last year to fill in between the boat trips. This was after a 40year lay off due to work and family commitments.
Only one further cod and some decent looking Whiting were landed. Out of the twelve anglers, only 6 caught fish (eleven fish in total), so a bit of a disappointing night for some, but for me I was well chuffed not only because I got the biggest fish but I also won all the sweep and got a personal best from the shore. I've still got a long way to go before I can catch up with you boys out there and get a proper pig but this little piglet will do me, thank you very much.
It was caught on rag with frozen crab cocktail on a 3/0 flapper rig. The rest of the fish taking worm baits. Here's the pic, soz for the poor light quality in the photo, my Tigra headlamp ran out, so I also took a pic today but she's a bit washed out having been in a bucket all night.
