fished tynemouth last night from 6 till 9.first chuck got a 1.5lb codlin.2nd chuck got a big thump on the rod,not a knocking type of bite the rod just pulled down, hit it and new it was a good un,using a saltist 20 i was having trouble pumping it in so started to walk back then wind in as i moved back down to sea,got it right into the surf and the hook pulled, could see the fish in the surf so ran down to try grab it,had the rod in one hand so put other on top of the fish right when a wave came, knocked me off balance onto my knees and fish was pushed up the beach, tried to grab it as it came back past me but couldnt get it,went back to me box and had to smile when noticed a couple had been watchin me,must have looked like a comedy.anyway sat on me box for a couple of mins to get me breath back and calm down(hands were shakin a bit--lol).moved onto the skeer in the middle of the beach and went out as far as i could get, chucked a big bait of frozen crab-squid and black lug towards the kelp and got a nice 4lbder.wont forget the one in the surf for a long time--.the hook used was only a 2/0 sakuma manta and it had bent out.will have to use bigger hooks--lol

Unlucky on the big one mate, you had a couple of good ones though, what sort of rig did you use as I can't seem to get the right set up, I've tried flappers, pulleys and free flowing trace and after 4 times of fishing beach and blanking its doing my nut in lol

the more i think about it that fish got lucky 3 times
1 the hook bent out just in the surf, another 6-8 feet and id have got it
2 tried to get hold near the gills but even with hand wide open it was only on top of its head then before i could do owt the wave puts me on me arse
3 when it washed away from me if the wash had brought it straight back it would have ended up in me lap but it took it to far to my right for me to grab it
                    thats fishin--lol
