  • Smiths Dock

A couple of hours on there resulted in a few little codlings, one just about size but returned, a decent flounder and an eel. My mate had 4 size whiting and a few smaller fish. Decent session and plenty of bites.

Through tyne tunnel and head for North Shields. Right turn at sports centre roundabout and drive down to river through the housing estate. Park on roadside next to marina. Walk along river path downstream and you willl come to holes in the fence to get in.

Seems to be deep water close in there and not as much flow as Jarrow or the Walkway where I have tried before. We just fished about 100yds onto the grass, is it better further along towards the dock itself? Any ideas?
Plenty of small fish there mind, pretty much a bite every cast once the tide started to ebb.
My mates 4 whiting weighed just under 5lb when he got them home, decent stamp.

Park on Ballast Hill Road I think to get closest. We walked down through the houses but looking at a map I think we could have done better parking there. Just after the end of the dock fence and theres a little path down through the trees.

              Hope this helps.

If I was going during the hours of darkness I would park the car near the marina office or Earl of Zetland ,is that just me being paranoid ?

The far left corner throws up more codling m8 casting left.

I saw you when you pulled the eel in I was about 50 yds further along. For me it really only fished until about 11:30 then the bites went off.

I got a nice Codling of 3½ lb on frozen crab at distance about 10:30 just after the ferry cut me off (my fault tho).

We had some nice fat Whitings and a few sardine sized codling. Not a bad morning.

                            I liked the tent !
