Ventured north of the Tyne last night for my first "serious" session of the season. Got to the beach just after half five to find a few rods already out and after a bit of a walk settled for a spot about half way along the beach.
Well to say the fishing was slow would be an understatement. Didn't get a touch until about half seven when I pulled in a small but perfectly formed coalie. Next cast I had a flounder but then as darkness fell it all went dead again. I persevered as much in hope as expectation, my reward was a solitary anorexic whiting about an hour after HT and that was my lot.
Plenty of people down there last night, had some lads fishing a match to my left (Bedlington Station?), one of them had three fish and the others one each I think, looked like a codling each and a couple of Whities or coalies.
My first time on this beach and I enjoyed fishing it despite the lack of fish. One of my goals for this year is to try more marks north of the river, this is an area I have only fished a couple of times and I'm looking forward to exploring and trying lots of new marks. Baits used were ragworm, runnydown and frozen crab and all the fish took the rag.
