Cadged a lift with a couple of mates today. Started off fishing the mouth of the Wansbeck for the last 2hrs up to high water. Managed 2 small Flounder on small chunks of mackerel fished close in with light gear. My 2 mates who I travelled there with both blanked, but one of the other lads we met up with had 2 Flounder, one a decent one.
Decided to move down to the Fish Quay for the last few hours of the session. Slow start, but as the tide began to ebb we started getting bites. I was catching quite a few Coalies down the edge (light gear again), must have been hordes of them down there, as it was a bite straight away every drop down. Hard to hook though.
One of the lads, Jim, started getting bites at range, and ended up with several Flounder - one a nice fish of 1 1/2lb or so, and an undersized Codling. Bites died off around 5pm. Stuck it out til 6pm with no further action so called it a day. Was good to get out, and it was excellent fun catching on the light gear
