  • Flattie bashing at Alnmouth

Had an entertaining session at Alnmouth last night, I arrived 3 hours before high tide just as the estuary was just starting to fill up, I had two rods cast into the middle of the neck, action all the way, non stop flounders, nearly all small often catching twos and threes, the lack of big ones making it a bit of a chore. As high tide arrived I had caught and released maybe 30, when the water dropped and the night set in the flatties cooled off, but I began to get much stronger bites, but no fish connecting, I knew these must have been bass, I was right … landed one, the way he was kicking and twisting, I thought this has to be a big one, alas no, a bass alright, but no monster, there was a flounder on the other hook, making it feel a lot heavier. Anyway, I let him go - even though I went home empty handed I really enjoyed the night, I had a feeling that the flatties would back off and I would catch something more interesting. Bait was macky and rag, the bass was caught on rag.
