Hi all, had a trip up to Eyemouth on sunday, my first this year and having not managed to get up at all last year i was really looking forward to it. Left South Shields at 3.30am and got as far as Haggy Castle before the rain started so stopped off at Mc'ds for a coffee then off to the golf course marks south of Eyemouth.
The rain stopped after half hour so headed off to my first mark just north of Scout point, rocks still very slippy but managed to make it without snapping an ankle...just! The sea was ok with a slight swell but a bit of a breeze was building and was making it uncomfortable with the float gear.
No takes on the ragworm or the mussel or the crab on either the float or the main bait rod that had been lobbed into various positions. The one time the ratchet did go was when i was nearly dragged in by the local crabber lifting his pots! He then set them within 10 metres of where i was right infront of me in a line! Not gonna grumble though cos he is there more than me.
Decided by 10.30 to move to my favourite mark just a couple of hundred yards north towards Agate point but that means climbing back up then back down the rocks, easier when its a dried a bit! Still no action on the shads, spinners or owt else until i got a decent bite and pulled in a lovely little red coloured codling of just 37cm! Try as i might though he just wouldnt go back though so the kids are having it for tea tomorrow. Followed that up with a coalie just on size and that was it for the day.
Headed off the rocks at 2pm and took a few pics they dont show the wind though that by now was howling, spoke to a couple of lads from Walker who were fishing a club match for Stagecoach, hope they had some fish.
Despite the lack of fish i really enjoyed it and cant wait for my next trip, it isnt all about the fish, its the peace and quiet, the scenery, the clear waters and the chance of catching something special.
