lynemouth beach fishing

Hi can anyone help me, ive recently getting bk into fishing again and have been trying lynemouth beach, 1st time I tried next to the pipe and caught a few flounders and a small coddling, next time I tried further north, (north side of the power plant, all way upto boghall rocks, seemed to be a lot of seaweed and kept getting snagged, also lost a bit of gear, was only using 20lb main line with 60lb shock leader, ive put 35lb main line on now so hopefully better, any advice on where is best and gear to use most appreciated..

ive never lost a set of gear on lynemouth beach 20lb mainline will be sufficent with a shockleader
i also mainly fish north of the pipe say about 400 yds of the stream up to boghall ive had codling flounder dabs coalies turbot and bass along the beach

This is my favorite beach and in the winter I fish it most weekends.
I always fish with a rotten bottom because you can loose a load of gear at times on this beach.
I have fished all along this beach from south to north but I find some of the best spots are just lefthand side of the big block in front of the boil(discharge pipe outlet from power station) this ground in hard and snaggy but throws up good cod in the winter.
Long casting will normally put into good fish,this mark has been spoilt due to sea defences that's been placed in front of the power station this has restricted the beach at this mark but on a big ebb tide at 2hrs off low water you can still fish it off the beach.
On the flood tide in calm weather you can fish off the sea defences but its not my choice due to uneven footing.

My next fav mark is crosswaters this is north of the blocks,walking from the blocks about 500yds you will see out at sea disturbance and some white water if there's any sea running.
This is hard rock skeer running from the shore line out to sea in a north east direction.
I normally fish this 3 hrs down and a couple of hrs up,the trick here is to long cast just north of the skeer but try to get as close to the rock without snagging up all the time.
A pulley rig with a single 5.0 or 6.0 hook with rotten bottom no swivels or as little hardware as possible on your rig,billy's rotters are good for this rig very simple.
Going north again is the stream,after a south east gale this can be a rig loss every cast due to a lot of wire and old building rubbish that's collected in this area off the dumping of waste some years ago.
North again you will come up to a shallow bank about 600yds from the stream,you will easy see this as the sea brakes onto this bank,fishing just down the south side of the bank is a great mark,again you can loss gear but with a rotten bottom you have a good chance of getting your fish in but without your lead.
There is loads of other great marks on this beach but Lynemouth beach has changed as is a lot shallower than years ago,this due to no coal waste being dumped into the sea anymore.
I would have said this was one of the best beach fishing venues along with the blast beach at Seaham.

Still well worth a trip and in the right condition you will do well.

Well m8 fished there many times and never lost any gear yet and yes your in the right place as many a good cod has been caught there and the my main line is 18lbs and a 50 lb shocker so maybe you need to change your line as how long have you had it on your reel and if you can snap it by hand it definately wants changing so good luck to you.

Really appreciate the feedback, seems like an excellent beach when you catch it right, ive always fished it at high tide with a good swell, any one fished it low tide? Il keep trying, il get my 20lb cod some day.

fished there sunday, bedlington comp m8, ne snagg`s but loads of weed drifting on, a strong tide coming in.........!

I was there Friday night davey, caught nothing but never mind, rough tide Fri night and pulled a lot of seaweed in, did you catch out??.

Caught nowt there m8, but it will fish, we moved down to cambois, and me m8`s 12 year old son got a very nice bass.

christ davey i must of been speakin to ya at the weigh in and didnt even know it was you mate. I was the lad with the greys jacket on fished craster with me mate and fish for station club ha ha

Interesting that Harry. Good read. It's a beach I don't like personally though. I find it hit or miss. I much prefer Blyth or Whitley. Then again I've only fished lynmouth a handful of times and normally end up at the same place.

I agree with you Peter,last year it was hit and miss I had more miss than others years but I think our beaches didn't fish well last year.
Well for me they didn't.
The times I have fished it(lots) I've had some great bags from these marks I mentioned.

On a sunny day in near flat sea conditions at the northend of Lynemouth fishing the left side of the sand bar(mark 3 in my report)I had 3 other cod that day.
Fishing the tide down fishing time 5hrs total.
Year before last in late Jan.

Quality Harry. I've really just fished it in the last year tbh. The conditions weren't good for the majority of last winter.

Problem is when the conditions are right during the day I'll end up on a different mark. Always go back to where you caught fish so they say.

Have to meet you on the beach one day.
