  • Poor weekend MOG

Went to the mull on Thursday with three mates from work. Stayed at the clashwannon caravan park in a very basic but adequate static. Hospitality and food in the pub second to none. Fished the flat rock on the Thursday. A few very small pollack and wrasse. Got one pollack about 3 lb and that was it between four of us. Went to ardwell bay on the friday. Had a pollack about 4 lb and that was it all day between us. Saturday went to east tarbet on the morning. Plagued with doggies and nowt on the float or spinner. Went back to ardwell pm and not a fish between us.
Talking to the locals it has not been much better all season.
Still a canny weekend away and will be back to try again.

Was up there a few weeks back staying in The Isle Of Whithorn & was talking to a Commercial fishing boat & he was saying he's never seen the seas so active with fish up there. His words were the sea is alive with fish so you must of went up when they were all full. Mackerel up there are tiny as well this year.

There's a lot of fresh water in the bays pushing the fish offshore and it's been like bisto gravy at times. The lads with boats are still catching offshore. I was at the isle of whithorn yesterday and managed two small Pollock in four hours. I moved around to Burrowhead but there was a 25mph Westerly blowing so I called it a day and went home. I hope the conditions improve for your next trip

The mackerel have always been smaller than the East coast early in the season but there's bigger ones around now. I took 30 on a silver spinner last week and all were decent size although the smaller fish are still around
