  • finally a keeper

me and my mate fished the bottom of the stairs and then onto slatey last night, first time fishing here and confidence was high after reading the codling crouch and some cracking info off dave haley and david storey.

sea was still huge but we managed to hold bottom and i managed to get my first size codling of the season 3lb 6oz, not massive but a keeper at last

taken on a big chunk of mackeral.

once the tide dropped we moved onto the skeer, we tried yellows, blacks, rag, lug, mussel, macky, razor, cart for a couple of bites, the conditions were perfect but the fish weren't playing the game.

after just getting back into fishing in 2016 its been the worst fishing ive ever known, both on the boats and the shore, roll on march so my shore gear can go away and start on the boats again, hopefully this year is better than last.

Slaty filled up with sand the last time a fished it , getting your lead back every cast just not the same. Unless you fish more to the beach part . But casting up the gut just not like it was .

Well done, Its been the flattest most boring winter fishing I have ever had and got nothing but little tommies. No doubt the wind will turn straight East on the 1st of May and stay like that until end of August :-(
