Having been assured by the BBC that the rain would clear later on in the night i set off for a few chuck along the pier at around 20:15. Conditions were not exactly terrential, and a light sprinking of rain was all i had to endure until around 21:30 when the clouds broke and gave way to a beatiful clear, and not too cold night on the Tyne.
As i had turned up later all the better spots had already been taken, and so i staked my place on the lower walkway on the railings. For Bait i had brought rag and maky and a few peeler crab, but even these did not help as the fishing was very poor for the majority of the night, with more than a couple baits coming back untouched! The fellas on the top level seemed to land a few more throughout the duration but not by much. All i managed was a good size Whiting though which mesured 40cm, not having scales means i wasnt able to weigh him, id say around 1lb. (Anyone care to hedge a guess from picture below?)
Eventually the other anglers left and i was alone. I broke out my second rod to try and increase my chances of another fish, but after another couple hours or static rod tips i called it a night at around 02:15.
Not a brilliant nights fishing, but i did not blank and that made all the difference. Here's to hoping next time is better!
(apologies for poor image quality my camera is rubbish)
