  • South shields pier 5/4/12

Had been watchin the webcams for a few days and decided on the pier so got down there for 7:30pm and judging what the lads were saying coming off the pier it sounded shiite

Set up on the end casting towards tynemouth pier as it was really busy and the leas swung round in the tide nicely and sat still and after about 10 mins me rod gans struck into it and found mesel snagged up fish was on aswell but i lost the lot about an hour later i gets another pull and reels in a lovely flounder of 36cm packed up at 12 having not caught anything else

I did see 4 codling come over the wall biggest about 3.5lb
So thats me gear away for a while longer

        Shields pier

Well it goes to prove the coddies are still around but David northeast i would/nt put your gear away as yet as there is still plenty of fishing left and you would just get bored sitting around doing nothing while your mates are out there enjoying themselves.

Yes i agree tht theres still plenty offishing to be had although not as prolific as could be it will only be away a few weeks until the plaice are here in numbers
I normally put the bigger gear away and the lighter rod comes out
Its also much better than a blank

Tbh i only seen 6 fish come in while i was there 4 codling and 2 flounder including mine after the sea we had on tuesday wednesday it was very very poor possibly just to late in the year im now gettin ready for summer

Unlucky with the lost fish David, better than blanking though at least, those people pulling the target fish in around you is a bit of a sickner I know the feeling lol.

the plaice "near the 3lb mark" was actually just over pound and a half when weighed. Very thin, it was my mate who caught it who i was fishing with, i only managed a small codling and a large flounder for my efforts, despite my whole squid mackerel tipped beast baits
