  • Roker, Friday night/Saturday morning!

Fished the pier (off the inside near the end) 10pm until 5am. Two decent Whitey's and a few small flounders came to the "scratching rod" fishing lug and rag tipped off with squid and Mackeral. Fished A whole squid with lug stuffed up into the hood on a pulley pennel rig on the other rod. First cast, massive bite bent the rod double and then went slack. reeled in and no resistance at all. Snapped line on the bite. Happenned 2nd and 3rd cast too!!! Big bite and then everything gone! 18lb main line to 50lb shock leader and 30lb snood! Not sure what was going on but happenned three times in a row with massive baits on.

Hi mate, were you fishing just next to the steps what lead up to the roundhead? Thats happened a few times for me, simple strike and it snaps, must be a sharp object lurking about somewhere down there.

    Least you didnt blank

Yes, I was about 10 yards or so down from the steps up to the end, pier was crowded when we first got there but it seemed to empty fast around 23:30 and the wind dropped the temp to just below freezing! I never struck any of them, slacklined after bite and when winding down found line snapped or cut. Scratcher rod was right next to big bait and had no trouble with that one! Wrecked boat or scrap car washed down out of the river maybe.........

First time I fished Roker for years and I never lost any gear on the inside before!
