            sonik

ive got the 6oz n c t sonik.its one of the best rods ive ever had. ther after sales service is also spot on. lads if you get snagged up dont keep lifting and bending your rod up and down just point the rod at the sea and pull. alternativly, wrap the line round your forarm and pull. unfortunatly fishing rough ground means snags. any make of rod will snap if you abuse it. ive had centurys, zipplex you name it, and sonik is up there with the best. tony anderson of sonik is one of the best anglers in the country not just the north east, having won many comps and fished all over the world. he knows whats required for our rugged coast, and i know he has put many hours in developing these rods at very competative prices. the scaremongers should realise its his buisness which suffers and his employees who are a great team. come on lads give him the support he needs and thank god there are more people happy with sonik than not.

Like i said in my earlier post i was very happy with the rod, SK3 5oz - 7oz up to the point it snapped. Although i was quite angry when it 1st happened, as i think most people would be initially, I have now came to the conclusion it could of happened to any rod, just unlucky i suppose.
I called in to Sonik at Blyth and spoke to Tony yesterday, who i must say was very helpful and gave great customer service and advice. He also replaced the tip section FOC.
I will continue to use this rod and would also recommend them to other anglers as i doubt the quality can be beaten for the price.

Undoubtably for their price they are cracking rods. It was just unfortunate that it happened 40mins into the N V S match, next time i think we both should bring a spare rod davy, just incase this happens.

But just to stress, no rod should snap under the pressure that rod did from how it snapped if it was ever fully compressed under a cast it would have went then. That rod had never been fully compressed, because neither me or davy could fully compress it, it takes someone like jay to do that. And tbh a Rod fit for 5-7oz casting with a 25lb breaking strain line shouldnt give under the pressure it did.

And before you all start having a go yes, I have used Soniks and do Have a Soniks, Both their SK3 Spinning range 30-60grm, and their SK4 14ft 5-7oz model beach rods. And when i bought them both i got told by the shop i bought them from to fill in my warranty card as soon as i get home, i asked why and he said there has been problems regarding the rods. So this is not a dig at sonik at all, If there is problems with a rod or manufaurer wouldnt you want to know about it? The only way a company can develop is with criticism, you learn from your mistakes and when they release a new range the rods will be better, and will be designed with this fault in mind. Yes most of their rods are spot on, so far mine ive had no problems with, but there are issues regarding their rods otherwise we wouldnt be hearing about it on here. They are a new company, they are making a big impact on the fishing market due to the quality of their rods for the prices they are sold for, but they are new and due to that reason nothing they make will be perfect first time.

There are problems regarding all rod manufacturers... Why do you think century introduced the metal band versions of their rods, because century spiggot joints take a hammering and its there to support the spiggot and stop problems like cracking at the spiggot from occuring. How long have century made rods... And they are still developing their rods... How did they realise this spiggot issue was widespread... Well by people reporting about it, and then they did something about it...

Regardless of sonik rods snapping fact of the matter is their customer service is one of the best around. They accept the flaws in their rods and every tip section that is returned they are analize to try and determine what the issue is. And i bet by the next line of their rods the issue will be resolved.

So when people are having a go at others for saying its not the rod its the user, or theres nothing wrong with sonik rods just remember your not the one who has the snapped rod. So dont try and judge what happened when fact of the matter is you wernt there and cant dictate what happened.

                Dean.

                  The metal trim band has nothing to do with strengthening the spigot, here is a quote from Century regarding the trim band;

"The bands are made from AISI 316 marine grade stainless steel and etched using a 50W YAG laser.

The function of the trim band is to prevent delamination of the Japanese shrink rubber grip on the butt section. Where reducers are used - there is also a trim band placed at the base of the rod - normally covered by the butt cap.

All joint reinforcement is independent of the trim band and determined and controlled by specific types of carbon fibres placed circumferentially around the mandrel in the composite lay up process.

The bands have no mechanically supportive function in the joint structure."

The lad that caught this super fish was using a sonik and he is very happy with it as are a number of other anglers that have replied in this thread.
Well done again on a superb fish.

                  Regards Ian

I agree with what ian said above metal band is more cosmetic than anything else, i have spoke to century regarding a tight ferrule i had once on a CMC and they told me to bring it up and they would make it a better fit as the most common cause of rods braking at the joint while casting is due to the tip not pushed into the butt section far enough, hence why i think most of century rods are an easier fit and only an inch and a bit of the tip section joint showing when pushed together.

I stand corrected, i allways thought it was re-enforcement for the spiggot as thats what it appears to do, but surley if being there also has that effect, it will prevent the spiggot under pressure by not allowing the joint to flex beyong the diameter of the ring?
